Peck 47 – A Brilliant Brunch in Brussels

Brussels has a thriving food scene which does actually stretch beyond the faithful frite, although I’m a big fan of them also.  On a recent visit I tried out Peck 47 (Rue du Marché aux Poulets 47) which was just across from my hotel. Having watched a steady stream of people queue outside to secure a table during my visit, I was lucky enough to grab a table early on my last day.It was a Monday morning, post hangover and I wanted something that was a mix between hangover cure and healthy eating (is there such a thing?). I went for the Pecker Ciabatta and my buddy went for the Veggie Brunch.

We also threw in a couple of smoothies, figuring they would help with the hangover.  Mine was orange, coconut and turmeric, smooth and tasty although the coconut was fairly light in flavour.  His was the basil, lemon and vanilla one, which was the better of the two with a strong kick of basil.  Both very satisfying however.

The Veggie Brunch was two poached eggs, asparagus spears, spinach and served with sourdough bread and homemade relish. Personally I like a bit more ‘stiffness’ in my asparagus but sure it was tasty none the less. It’s hard to go wrong with eggs and I’m happy to report they didn’t.

The sourdough and relish, I could feed on that all day long, delicious.

Mine, the Pecker, was roast chicken with rocket, roasted tomatoes and lemon and basil mayo.  It was also served with a glass of warm mint pea soup.

It may not look like the most interesting or enticing dish but damn it packed a flavour punch and the chicken was so tender I was worried it might fly away.

The mint and pea soup while tasty just wasn’t helping my hangover so I left half of it. Overall I’ll give Peck 47 the thumbs ups. It’s tasty, wholesome, filling and decent value.

Next time you are in Brussels give Peck 47 a try.  Its popular with locals and tourists alike and the menu is varied enough to cater for all.   The only draw back is it can be a little cramped and the staff, while very friendly are a little slow to coordinate new arrivals and maximise the table use.  Then again, it was very busy so perhaps I shouldn’t judge so harshly.
