Box Burger Bray – BEEFTASTSIC

*I visited Box Burger in Bray as part of a Zomato food led experience. The review following is an honest and true reflection of my visit.*

Burgers. Who doesn’t love a burger. I know I love them. They go with lunch, they go with dinner and they most certainly go with 3a.m. after one or two (too many) pints. On a more sober note however, I had the pleasure of joining the Zomato crew for a trip to Box Burger in Bray.

It’s a large space with a mix of seating options which include some comfortable booths that have their own speakers over the table.  You can connect your phone directly to it and play whatever music you like, and charge your phone the same time. Practical and genius, so naturally we made use of it, although I’d question Aisling’s taste in music!

To kick of proceedings our table had a variety of nachos (€9.50).  Vegetarian, beef and chicken piled high with tomato, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, chillies and cheese sauce. A meal in themselves and if you are going with the added beef or chicken I’d say share them for a starter.

I have to say I loved the addition of the speaker, USB ports and plugs over the table in the booth we were sitting in.  They are just so handy to have.

Along with the nachos we shared some sweet potato fries (€4.50) which were divine I have to say and a decent portion size too.  There was also a portion of box fries (€4.50) which were served with onion, chicken gravy and cheese. Now you may roll your eyes at that description but dear God they were filthy good.  Alas I didn’t get a picture of them. They also serve Wicked Wolf so of course some pints were had.

Now onto the burgers. They are very reasonably priced at between €8.50 & €9.50 and for €3 extra you can add fries or salad or coleslaw or onion rings.  Basically Box Burger have a burger to suit every taste. Cheese, chilli, Mexican, steak and egg, spinach and fish to name but a few.

They do say a picture tells a thousand words and you will be able to see below how the burgers were served. Each burger is a 6oz pattie in a steamed brioche bun with standard toppings of lettuce, onion, pickle, mayo and mustard. You can of course omit any of these and have it to your own taste.  They were full of meaty flavour had a wonderful caramelised charring and damn they were good.

We opted to cut some of them in half and try a bit of everything.  While they were all good, my two favourites were the steak and egg and the bacon and cheese. As with the nachos the burgers are quite filling and I only managed to stuff about two of them into me. I did however take one to go in a little burger box in case I got hungry on the train.  Box Burger is certainly worth a visit. It has a great vibe, serves beers and cocktails and was absolutely jam packed mid week (always a good sign).  If burgers are not really your thing, they have you covered with their sister restaurant Platform Pizza which is right next door.
