Rewind Review-Featherblade – Satisfying Steaks

I walked by Featherblade last week and it reminded me of the fantastic meal I had when they first opened.  So here’s a rewind to my original review, which is of course glowing.A steak dinner for €13 that is not tough as Chuck Norris or chewy as Chewbacca, unheard of ? Well until now it was. Enter Featherblade the new kid on the Dawson Street block. The surrounds are comfortable enough  even if the table are a little close for comfort. It’s all dark colours and muted tones which give it a clean and classic feel while remaining contemporary too.

The menu is small, the menu is tasty, the menu proves the saying ‘good things come in small packages’. There is one for eats which of course lists the featherblade steak and there is usually one other cut on offer, along with some sides and sauces. The drinks one covers wine, cocktails and beers.

Starters were priced €8 and we opted for confit chicken with hot sauce and salmon poke with sweet potato crisps. Both well executed tasty and simple dishes.  The chicken was tasty and the sauce rich with a kick.  The salmon poke was not really to my taste but then again it wasn’t my starter and I’m told it was excellent.

So now the steaks. Featherblade is a tender joy of meat that caresses your tongue, while the garlic, chilli and herbs side it comes with kicks your taste buds into action.

The other steak was skirt steak which had more texture to it. Equally good and the béarnaise sauce was rich, buttery and high on herb notes.

Sides are €3.50 and we got two different ones. First was truffle Mac and cheese. It’s like taking your everyday firm favourite and pimping it to the next level of taste. I had mine with beef dripping fries. BEEF DRIPPING + fries = genius, enough said. Bravo folks, total win.

To finish it was a lemongrass panacotta. Sweet thick cream with a contrasting heat from the lemongrass was a beautifully light finish (as were the two glasses of wine). Simple good food with an affordable steak price tag of only €13. Put a Feather in your cap Featherblade you earned it.
