Outdoor Movies @ Waterside House Hotel

The folks over at the Waterside House Hotel recently ran the first of their outdoor movies series.  I tagged along to their screening of Grease to see what it was all about. The setting I have to say on the terrace is simply marvellous.  You are pretty much just feet away from the sand and the presence of the sea certainly does not go unnoticed.

The first night alas, was not blessed with the good weather we had temporarily become accustomed to in Ireland. The wind was up slightly and the clouds were turning a nasty grey colour. Did it stop the crowds gather to see musical classic Grease, not at all.  Sure they were out in force.  Couples, old and young along with groups of girls and a few bewildered looking older men.

So what do you get for the €15 adult entry.  Well you get, in my eyes, quite a decent deal.  You get your seat out on the terrace. You get a choice of a hamburger or chicken burger with side salads and you get an ice cream.  They also had complimentary tea/coffee on offer to keep you warm and a there was even a popcorn machine.  The screen is a decent size and its mounted on top of a van (obviously mobile) and the sound carried well right to the back where I was.

The food I have to say was very tasty and cooked to serve so it was nice and fresh and served with a smile.

Overall I have to say it was very enjoyable.  They can’t control the weather but they certainly brightened the evening with a classic movie, good food, good service and did I mention that you have access to a bar so you can enjoy a beer with your burger in your seat. You won’t get that at a regular cinema.

The next one is taking place on August 4th with two crowd pleasers in the form of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory at 5pm (original of course) and Dirty Dancing at 9pm. Id advise you book your tickets early as even in the less than ideal weather, Grease was pretty busy. The early shows are aimed at kids who get in for €10 and the later for adults who pay €15.  Not a bad way to spend the evening for the entire family.
