The Secret Life of Pets – Movie Review

So what exactly do pets get up to when their owners leave them alone?

Brought to you by the team behind Despicable Me (Chris Renaud) The Secret life of Pets gives audiences a hilarious insight into how their adorable pets spend their days.

Max (voiced by Louis C.K.) lives in a Manhattan apartment building with his owner Katie (Ellie Kemper). His dog life is turned upside down with the arrival of Duke (Eric Stonestreet) a larger than life addition that Katie brings home.2426_S1230P0226_L_COMPO_RENDER_0143R

Before long the two are battling for attention, end up losing their collars to a gang of alley cats and are nabbed by animal control. Bundled into the back of the van they are caged with a mean looking bulldog who has more than a passing resemblance to Hannibal Lecter.

Led by Snowball (Kevin Hart) a gang of misfit abandoned pets do a mission impossible to break free their friend (Hannibal) along with Duke and Max in the process. Meanwhile Gidget (Jenny Slate) is rounding up her own gang, Chloe (Lake Bell), Mel, Buddy and Sweetpea to find Max and bring him home.

The Secret Life of Pets I suspect will be the new Toy Story (first out in 1995) and excite and entertain both children and adults. The story possibilities are endless and I for one am hoping for a sequel or two.  2426_TP4_00019RI’m giving it 4/5.  It was a fun movie with a cast of adorable pets which made me want to rush out and get one of my own. Check out the trailer below, go see it and make up your own mind.

Thanks for review. From the trailer – which I thought was hilarious – I perhaps expected more from this. Still, it’s probably one that’s worth catching up with because it sounds like it’ll still entertain even if it doesn’t reach the heights of some of the animated masterpieces of the last few years.
