I popped along to the Aldi Summer Wine Tasting this week to see what was on offer. Personally I’m more a fan of white wine and of course anything with bubbles. There was a mix of seasonal (Summer) and core collection to try out. Given that our ‘Summer’ seems to finally be here I’ve a few recommendations from each range below.
First up is the Exquisite Collection Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (seasonal range) from New Zealand at €12.99. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc which is fresh and crisp with fruit flavours and a long finish. It would pair well with seafood and salads.
While Spain is known for its reds it also has some great whites from the Galicia region. I chose the Exquisite Collection Rias Baixas Albarino (seasonal range) priced at €8.99. Pale in colour with a faint apple tinge it has a delicate pear aroma and again would pair well with seafood.
My third choice which is from the core range and a firm favourite of mine is the Freeman’s Bay Sauvignon Blanc at €8.79. It’s excellently priced and is a fresh fruit explosion of lime, gooseberry and passion fruit. Its crisp and zingy and another for enjoying with seafood.
The first of my sparkling wine choices is the Exquisite Collection Blanquette de Limoux (seasonal range) at €13.99. Hailing from the Languedoc region in France its a Mauzac grape. Apparently Blanquette de Limoux is the oldest sparkling wine in the world. It’s a dry white with apple and pear flavours and certainly one to try.
The last on my list is the Valdobbiadene Prosecco from Veneto in Italy priced at €11.99 and part of the core range. Refreshing bubbles with floral and fruit notes which is an ideal choice to sit back relax and enjoy the sun with.
