Booze Infused – Gin & Tonic Jelly

Gin has come a long way since the days of robbing a swig of the Gordon’s from the mother’s drink press. Over the last couple of years gin has exploded in popularity and with world gin day having just taken place on Saturday June 11th it would be rude not to put together a gin inspired recipe. Continue reading

Limoncello & Basil – A Smoothie Surprise

All too often when the sun shines you hear people (everyone’s mother) roll out the phrase ‘sure with weather like that you wouldn’t want to go away’.  Well as glorious as Ireland is in the sunshine I might still be tempted to jump on a plane to Italy and sip Limoncello by the sea. As luck would have it, I work with a lovely Italian lady who brought me in a bottle. I cobbled together a few healthy ingredients which I then completed doused in liqueur and came up with a refreshing Italian inspired summer smoothie. Continue reading

Vodka Smoothie – Its For Adults Only

The smoothie has long been praised for being a quick and easy way to get fresh fruit and/or vegetables into our diets.  To be fair making a smoothie takes little or no skill and the right combination can taste incredibly good.  Continue reading

5 Wines To Try From The Aldi Summer Range

*note this is not a sponsored post nor was I encouraged to write it*

I popped along to the Aldi Summer Wine Tasting this week to see what was on offer.  Personally I’m more a fan of white wine and of course anything with bubbles.  There was a mix of seasonal (Summer) and core collection to try out. Given that our ‘Summer’ seems to finally be here I’ve a few recommendations from each range below. Continue reading

Shortcross Gin Tasting at Galgorm Resort

*invited as a guest to the event which in no way colours my view of the evening*

Following on from the review of my visit to Galgorm Resort and Spa, it was actually their Gin Club which had me there in the first place.  They run a quarterly meeting with a featured gin at each event.  You can sign up to become a member and avail of discounted overnight rates and of course a complimentary gin and tonic. This quarter the featured gin was Shortcross Gin which is made in Rademon Estate Distillery in Co. Down. Continue reading

4 Bottles of Bubbles to Try from Aldi

I wrote recently about a Christmas wine tasting event hosted by Aldi Ireland which I attended in the Mansion House. I had my first taste of Port which I enjoyed immensely.  Also on offer on the night was a selection of champagne, yes proper champagne from the Champagne region of France. Here’s a run down of what you can expect to find on offer. A Perfect Port from Maynards

Until recently I had never known the pleasures of port. I would hear the name and usually picture old men drinking it at Christmas. With that in mind, I guess it was fitting that my first drop of port was at a Christmas wines preview for Aldi. It took place in Fire Restaurant on Dawson Street and guests were invited to work their way through a variety of wines, champagnes, Prosecco, beers and of course a selection of port from Maynards. Continue reading
