Burger Porn At Bread and Bones

Let me start by saying that I would go back to Bread and Bones for the superb level of customer service alone.  They are a business who know exactly how to speak to, engage with and give an experience to their customers.  I’ve chatted with them on the phone, over Twitter and via email and they consistently go the extra mile. It just so happens that they also make some FILTHY GOOD BURGERS. Continue reading

Sourdough Sharing Bread with Melted Cheese & Spring Onion

This recipe for a sourdough sharing bread is quick, easy, tasty and you can substitute the ingredients easily to vary the results.   All you need is a loaf of bread (unsliced).  I went for brown multigrain sourdough bread.  120g of butter (creamy Irish butter), about 4-5 spring onions sliced thinly and 450g of cheddar cheese (Rathdaragh).  I opted for a low-fat mature white cheddar. Nordzee – Superb Seafood in Brussels

I’ve been to Brussels twice this year already. I often think it gets over looked in favour of the more ‘flashier’ European cities like Paris, Rome and Barcelona.  Brussels however has quite a lot to offer its visitors. It has beautiful architecture, museums and parks. What really gets me excited however is the abundance of incredible food and beer that the city is serving up.  Seafood at Nordzee is top of the list ! Continue reading

Protein Pancakes – A Healthy Alternative

*the whey protein was a gift / the recipe is all my own*

They guys over at Motion Nutrition sent me a bag of their whey protein to try out. In an effort to be a little healthier and see exactly what I could do with whey protein I decided to come up with a simple breakfast inspired recipe. Continue reading

Wild Foods & Foraging Masterclass at Brooklodge

**my stay was covered at my own expense (and well worth it) but my place on the master class was complimentary**

It was the sound of geese chattering around the pond outside my window that woke me. I had stayed the night in the luxurious and tranquil surrounds of Brooklodge and Macreddin Village in Co. Wicklow. I’ll tell you more about my stay in a follow-up post but first let me tell you why I was visiting. Continue reading

Ruth Reichl – Books About Food That You Will Devour !

I’ve recently stumbled across a number of books written  by Ruth Reichl. Ruth has led quite an interesting life it has to be said.  She has been married a couple of times, had a couple of affairs. Lived in a commune of sorts.  Owned and run a restaurant. Been the food writer and restaurant critic for both the Los Angeles Time and the New York Times and of course written cookbooks. The Perfect BBQ – Asian Inspired Pork Skewers

As soon as the sun comes out every balcony and garden across the country has a cloud of smoke coming off it.  The likes of Argos and Woodies are rammed with eager BBQ buyers picking up their ‘use it once a year’ BBQ.  The thing is you just can’t beat BBQ food in good weather and the fact that we are barbecuing in Ireland makes us feel all sorts of exotic. Instead of rolling out the usual burgers and chicken fillets I decided to give my pork steaks a hint of eastern flavor for a delicious and simple BBQ crowd pleaser. Continue reading
