I was recently in Belfast to run the marathon. That was a bit of a disaster I have to say, you can read about it here While there I needed to ‘carb load’ (I’m using that term loosely) so paid a visit to City Picnic. It’s a simple, no fuss burger and fries kind of place. The menu is short, appeals to your fat cells (perfect hangover food) and comes on a business card. Continue reading

The War Memorial Gardens – Dublin
I happened to be staying in Islandbridge recently and the view from the apartment balcony included the War Memorial Gardens. I had heard of them many times. I had a rough idea of what they represented but I had never actually set foot in them. Continue reading
Conquering The High Seas With Dublin Bay Cruises
I had seen Dublin Bay Cruises advertised a few times and it had been on my list of things to do for ages. Finally I picked up a couple of tickets (€22 adult) and set sail. They offer a few different cruise options as per below but for June Bank Holiday they have extra sailings from Dublin City to Howth and back. Continue reading
Newgrange – An Historical Masterpiece
The last time I was in Newgrange was probably on a school tour many years ago. Living relatively close to it I decided to revisit. Given that it has been there for over 5,000 years I wasn’t expecting much of a change. Continue reading
Irelands Eye – Only a Boat Trip Away
A girl in work had told me about a trip she took over to Irelands Eye. It was never somewhere I ever thought about visiting but out of curiosity I hit Google to see what I could find out.

There they wrote a copy of the four Gospels named the Garland of Howth. It was similar to the Book of Kells and it is also in Trinity College Dublin. Continue reading
Titanic Tours – A Fans Journey of the Exhibitions
I have to admit I’m a bit of an all things Titanic fan. Ever since I was a kid I’d been fascinated by it. I remember watching the movie Raise the Titanic in my grandmothers and thinking it was amazing. It wasn’t until years later that I found out the ship was actually split in two and would never be raised at all. It was terribly upsetting to discover. Damn you Hollywood and your lies and your snappy movie tag line of ‘They’ve Found The Titanic, There’s Just One Thing Left To Do’. Lies all lies, it will never be raised. Continue reading

Sometimes on my lunch break my mind wanders to planning a weekend away so I hit the net to see what interesting spots I can find. That was how I stumbled across the absolute gem that is Roundwood House. I promptly contacted them and made a booking for a Saturday night. for myself and himself. Continue reading
