Iv’e been to Harrys on the Green many times and am always impressed by the quality of their cocktails. I’ve also had a chat with one of the barman who makes them and he told me about spending 3-4 hours making ginger juice to add to cocktails. A slow time consuming process but fresh from the source and tastes so much better he told me.
The only downside to their cocktails is the sheer range on offer. I’ve probably worked my way through a quarter of them over a few visits at this stage. Every now and then the bar also appears on a groupon site, and if you regularly read this blog you will know I’m a groupon junkie. It’s a great way to try out new places without having to default on your mortgage. When they recently came up I jumped at the chance of getting 3 cocktails for €12. In fact I bought two of them. The only thing better than 3 cocktails is 6 cocktails.
Here’s a quick rundown on the cocktails I shared on a sunny Sunday afternoon with H and my sister. First up a Cucumber and Elderflower Collins. Gin based (Bombay) with fresh cucumber, lemon juice, elderflower liqueur and topped with soda water. Light and refreshing but maybe not for someone who doesn’t care for gin.
The Dark ‘n’ Stormy was next. Bacardi based with fresh ginger juice, lime juice, ginger ale and topped with Goslings dark rum. This one was much stronger. My sister is a Bacardi fan so she was impressed. with it.
A Bizzy Lizzy was next. Raspberry infused Eristoff vodka, Finlandia grapefruit vodka, elderflower liqueur, strawberry syrup, cranberry bitters, fresh cranberry and lemon juice. I have to say, despite it tasting incredible I reckon I could only manage one of these as its terribly sweet.
The General Chow. Coconut infused Bacardi Superior rum, Chambord black raspberry liqueur, fresh passion fruit, banana, lime wedges and chunks of pineapple. A fantastic mix of ingredients which made it the perfect Summer has returned cocktail.
Now this bad boy was the creme da le creme of cocktails for me. Called the Ferrero Rocher, you just know its going to taste good. Eristoff vodka, white chocolate liqueur, barley malt extract, roast hazelnut syrup and a chocolate wafter rim. Basically its like drinking a Ferrero Rocher. Unlike Ferrero Rocher however you may not be able to have about 6 or 7 in a row, for health reasons.
Last on the list was the Pornstar Martini. Aptly named because it is obscenely good. Vanilla infused Eristoff vodka, fresh passion fruit, passion fruit purée, passion fruit syrup and bubbles. A triumph is all I will say.
I agree- cocktails in Harrys are delicious and in my opinion the best in Dublin- with Pornstar Martini and General Chow being my favourite! I also get the deal vouchers for this place every time they have it on offer. However couple of days ago me and my friend went to Harrys to use our vouchers are were told that we can only use one per table and we had one each. When we asked them if we sat at two separate tables it’d be ok to use two vouchers, they actually said yes… lol. Very weird point in terms and conditions… reading your review I believe that you didn’t have the same problem? ah well… It doesn’t really change the fact that cocktails were delicious.and we still enjoyed them- just responsibly on this occasion 😉
Love the pornstar martini and those vouchers are such great value !!! More more of them please
