The lovable, foul-mouthed, pot smoking, beer swilling, womanising teddy bear is back in director Seth MacFarlane’s Ted 2. Mark Wahlberg of course reprises his role as John Bennett, the other half of the thunder buddies.
Time has moved on a little since we last seen them. John has split with his girlfriend and is living the single life. Ted (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) has settled down with Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth), but its not all smooth sailing. In an effort to save their marriage they make the sensible decision (said sarcastically) to have a baby. Ted however is declared by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to not be an actual person and unable to adopt. Fired from his job and informed his marriage has been annulled Ted and John take on the task of suing the state and having him recognised as a person.
Their first attempt fails miserably, despite the help of Samantha L. Jackson (Amanda Seyfried). Undeterred the trio take a road trip to New York to enlist the help of civil rights attorney Patrick Meighan (Morgan Freeman). Watch out for a Planes, Trains and Automobiles, inspired sequence where Ted (who let him drive) flies off the road into the roof of a barn. Of course its not all easy going for the rest of the movie either. Donny (Giovanni Ribisi) is back and still very much obsessed with getting his hands on Ted and making him his best friend. He hatches a plan with the CEO of the company who made Ted to grab him and make multiple Teds.
The movie stalls a little in some parts and might feel a little long at times; but the laughs are still very much there to keep your belly rolling. So too is a heartfelt story of friendships and relationships. There is also a whole host of cameos in the movie to watch out for. Ted 2 is getting a 3.0 out of 5 for me. Check out the trailer below.
