“Jameos del Agua is a place on earth where nature and mankind decided to come together”. That is the first line of text on the attractions official website. Quite a bold statement to make, but Is it true?I’ve been traveling back and forth to the island of Lanzarote for about fifteen years at this stage. My parents bought an apartment there which they kept free all year round so the family could enjoy it. Not long after they decided to up sticks and move their permanently. I suspect I will do the same before long.
It may not be as lively as Gran Canaria but the island has lots going for it. Good weather pretty much all year round, cheap beer and good food. Added to that is an easy pace of life and two airlines flying daily from Dublin to Arrecife. In just four hours you can be soaking up the sun and enjoying five pints of San Miguel for €10, something I’ve done many times.
You can drive around the island in a day with ease, so if you do visit make sure you put Jameos del Agua on your list of places to visit. It’s a stunning mix of nature and architecture cleverly combined to create a one of a kind attraction. A bar, a restaurant, a lagoon, a lake with blind white crabs, deep caverns that look like a Bond villains lair, volcanic tubes and a breathtaking underground auditorium. It will set you back just under 10 euro for admission but its money well spent.
Throughout the year on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays they also hold special concerts where you can combine a meal with classical music in a one of a kind setting. Prices range from 39.90 to 49.90 euro with varied menus. To give you a better idea of what to expect just take a look at the photos below.
