United Arts Club

Jazz Sundays in The United Arts Club

I’ve walked by The United Arts Club at 3 upper Fitzwilliam Street plenty of times. I had a notion that it was some sort of place where generally stuffy people might hang out.  We are all guilty of judging a book by its cover and I’m glad that I had the opportunity to have my notion corrected.  Continue reading

Wonder Woman

Movie Review: Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot is hitting the big screen as Wonder Woman on June 1st.  For many she was the highlight (brief as it was) of Batman Vs Superman. With her own movie in excess of two hours, it will be interesting to see exactly how fans and critics react.  Its directed by Patti Jenkins whose last big screen feature was Monster. One would wonder about the reason for the 15 year movie directing gap. Continue reading

Old Street Malahide

Review: Old Street Malahide

Out with the new and in with the old. The latest addition to the vibrant dining scene in the bustling town of Malahide is Old Street.  A modern neighbourhood restaurant housed in what was once an aging cottage. Despite being only open a matter of weeks it has the tongues, both local and further afield wagging.  Continue reading

Urchin Dublin

Urchin at Cliff Townhouse

Urchin at the Cliff Townhouse is like a white and pastel coloured Summer hangout. Serving seafood and cocktails to a backdrop of cool tunes.  I had missed the opening night but the lovely PR team behind it sent me a voucher to try out some cocktails and small plates as a guestContinue reading

F.X. Buckley Steakhouse and Bars

Review: FX Buckley Steakhouse

Sometimes you just need steak. I have a friend who has steak every Friday night. It could be Monday morning and he would be talking about his pending Friday night steak with a glass of wine.  Steak and wine are like the Cagney and Lacey of food and FX Buckley has them both. Continue reading

Wexford Half Marathon

Wexford Half Marathon 2017

The last time I took part in a half marathon was April 2016 in Madrid.  A year is a long time to be resting on your laurels in running terms.  It was a combination of factors which kept me idle.  Some were of my own doing and some were due to injury.

Time however has a habit of slipping by so quickly.   Continue reading

The Promise

Movie Review – The Promise

It is estimated that over 1.5 million Armenians were exterminated during the Armenian Genocide which began in 1915. Let that sink in for a moment and ask yourself if you were even aware of it.  I’m sorry to say, I was not.  The Promise written and directed by Terry George (Hotel Rwanda, The Boxer, In The Name of the Father) from Belfast tells the harrowing tale of how the Ottoman Empire attempted to wipe out the Armenians. Continue reading

Bodegas El Grifo

Travel: Bodegas El Grifo Lanzarote

Recently I wrote about the village of El Golfo in the south of Lanzarote. A stunning village that’s home to the green lagoon. My next snippet about Lanzarote is all about a trip to Bodegas El Grifo. One of the largest wineries on the island they have been in operation since 1755. Having recently passed my WSET Level 2 Wines and Spirits, there was no way I was going to miss out on discovering a bit about the history of wine in Lanzarote. Continue reading
