Shane Murray from MUD Bakery has been on a rollercoaster ride of baked goods since finishing runner-up on season 2 of The Great Irish Bake Off (GIBO) in 2014. Not one to sit on his laurels he has been busy building and perfecting his own baking empire. I had a chat with Shane to discover where his love of baking came from and what is next for MUD Bakery. Fallon & Byrne Eggs Benedict & Brisket Brunch
There are so many good things to say about Fallon and Byrne, I’m sure anyone who has visited will wholeheartedly agree with me. There’s the outrageously gorgeous food hall where I want to buy everything and of course the superb wine cellar which is every wine lovers dream. Continue reading
Jackie, Sing and Split – Movie Roundup
Jackie, Sing and Split a movie roundup. January is shaping up to be a busy month for movies. It’s also Golden Globes month where worthy (mostly) winners collect a trophy in recognition of their work. I popped along to see three which are opening in Irish cinemas the weekend of January 20th to 22nd (Sing has previews). Two of them were among the Golden Globe nominees. Jackie which Natalie Portman was nominated for best actress, Sing for best animated picture and Split starring James McAvoy. Continue reading
Natureo De-alcoholised Wine
Natureo De-alcoholised Wine. Now there’s a term you just don’t see all too often. Wine with no alcohol?, foolhardy surely. It will never catch on, or will it? So what exactly is De-alcoholised wine and who on earth would be buying it? Continue reading
Recipe – Nutella Turnovers
I spotted this idea on Facebook and figured I’d give it a bash and share the results. It looked quick and easy and tasty, and it was. Well done to whoever came up with it. Essentially it’s just a twist on an apple or jam turnover using Nutella. Continue reading
A Monster Calls
The monster showed up just after midnight. As they do.
Conor was awake when it came. He’d had a nightmare. Well, not a nightmare. The nightmare.
It was the nightmare that Conor (Lewis MacDougall) refused to acknowledge. The one he dared not think about. The one that summoned the monster and the one the monster called ‘his truth‘.
Everything changed when his mother (Felicity Jones) got sick. For so long it was just the two of them. His father lived in America with his new family. The once frequent calls were now few and far between. It wasn’t just his home life that changed when his mother got sick. Conor’s school life changed too. First there were whispers. Then there was bullying. Worst off all there was silence and feeling invisible. Continue reading
Honey Vodka Shots
While Winter brings us the festive season, it also brings with it cold and flu. Even worse, it brings the dreaded and deadly manflu. A very rare strain of the ‘regular’ flu which has been known to strike down even the manliest of men. Many (men) describe the symptoms of manflu has being similar to that of child-birth. Personally I suspect it is worse. I’ve had the manflu and I’ve had to take to the bed for days with nothing but Netflix and prayers to see me through. The solution? Honey Vodka Shots. Continue reading
Spiced Apple Warmers
Long before the words ‘craft cider’ become trendy, the word cider conjured up the memory of cheap brown 2 litre plastic bottles and teenage hangovers. Ireland however has come on leaps and bounds and embraced the humble apple for all it is worth. Craft cider is now a big market and I’ll be the first to admit, I’m quite a fan of it. With that in mind I’ve put together some spiced apple warmers. Continue reading
