In the first of the events I have the pleasure of covering in the Boyne Valley Food Series, I took a road trip to the Big Cheese Market hosted by Sheridans’s Cheesemongers in Pottlereagh Co. Meath. Founded in 1995, Sheridan’s as we all know is run by its owners Kevin Sheridan, Seamus Sheridan and Fiona Corbett. They have four retail outlets, 6 market stalls and a purpose built premises in Co. Meath where customers can visit a weekly market which is where I went to visit.
The market is in a converted barn structure and it’s not only cheese which you will find there. Sheridan’s is like a central hive for a network of incredibly diverse producers who are nestled in the surrounded area. It’s part market, part tea rooms and park artisan treasure chest. The market runs every week and if you are in the area I highly recommend you drop in and sample some of the delights on offer.
There was no better way to capture the essence of the visit than in pictures, so with that said, feast your eyes on the details of my visit. Oh and before I managed to get to the actual cheese, my taste buds found themselves salivating at the sight of some very fresh baked cakes. It would be rude not to try it, so lets just say I wasn’t rude.
And check out the variety of local producers who are also available for you to pick up at Sheridan’s
The Cheese!!!!!!!! There was cheese to taste and cheese to buy and plenty of both.
Oh and if you wanted a little tipple to go with your cheese, they also have a great selection of wine on offer too.
And last but not least, they also have a selection of cook books to inspire you at home, perhaps while you enjoy a glass of wine and a slice of cheese.
