2015 has been a good year for female leads in comedy blockbusters. Melissa McCarthy in Spy, Amy Schumer in Trainwreck and now we have Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler in Sisters.
Tina is Kate Ellis, the loudmouth, foul mouth, irresponsible half of the sibling duo. Amy is Maura Ellis, the see the good in everyone, parties are fun if controlled and monitored, ever so responsible sister. Other than the same parents they have little in common, well they love each other lots.
Kate has a teenage daughter who plays the role of responsible mother while her actual mother struggles to hold down a job and a roof over her head. Maura has a dog and a whole lot of inspirational advice for family and strangers alike.
When their parents decide to sell the family home they return home to clear out their bedrooms. Determined to go out with a bang they decide to throw a party to say farewell and let Maura be the reckless sister for the night.
What follows of course is a series of hilarious scenarios as the sisters swap roles and the party gets out of control. While the storyline might not be new it does at least slap it with a fresh (enough) twist. The chemistry between Fey and Poehler is on point throughout and they deliver great performances.
Tiny Fey & Amy Poehler
Directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) and written by Paula Pell (Saturday Night Live) Sisters has a great supporting cast which includes James Broiln, Dianne Wiest and John Cena. It’s in cinemas now and I’m giving it 3.5 out of 5. It’s fun, light hearted and will make you laugh out loud. Check out the trailer below.
