Sometimes a burger is just a burger and sometimes its a Wowburger. A relatively recent chain of burger joints which has expanded to six locations in Dublin and one in Cork, Wowburger’s original home was in the Workman’s Club. It’s all about simplicity and great tasting burgers at Wowburger. The menu is short with three burgers on offer; hamburger, cheeseburger and bacon cheeseburger. For the kids there is a mini version of each. Sides come in the shape of fires, garlic butter fries, chilli fries and onion rings. To drink its sodas and shakes and to finish its ice cream sundae. On a recent visit with a pal, I went for cheeseburger (€5.95) and fries €2.95) and he went with bacon cheeseburger (€6.95) and fries. You can choose your toppings and they are all free, yes FREE, including grilled onions, pickles, mushrooms and choice of sauces such as BBQ, Hot and Wowburger signature sauce.
Wowburger have that all American diner influence with bright colours and an efficient order at the till, grab your number and wait for your food system in place. Everything is served in handy red containers and each item is labelled so you know who is getting what when you get to your table.
So how does it fair ?
The burgers are superb. Both burgers are superb. Yes you get two quality beef patties in your bun along with whatever toppings you decided to pimp it with. They are cooked perfect, retain the juicy flavour and stupid it as it might seem to say, they taste like beef. A property meaty texture and taste. My photos may not do them justice but frankly I was more about eating then photographing.
The fries I’m happy to report are not a disappointment either. They are an ample serving, cooked to be crisp and dipped in their signature sauce, a delight to eat. The sauce by the way has a bit of a chipotle type kick to it and is delicious. Soft drinks consist of the standards like Coke, Fanta and Sprite. It’s self-serve and no-one told me not to refill it again so I’m going to assume that’s a bonus, which will delight the mothers and fathers out there no end.
Overall all Wowburger is an excellent feed with a decent price point and the absolute highlight is that two of their locations are attached to, or inside pubs, hello Workman’s Club and Mary’s Bar. We all know a burger and chips after a feed of pints is a winning combination. I’ll be back. Actually I have been already.
